On 24th Feb 2023, Kibabii University students were treated to an activation of Ajira Digital Programme which is a government initiative launched by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT). The initiative is geared towards enhancing youth employment in Kenya through online jobs. The youth friendly programme offers basic training on how to earn online from the comfort of your room through content writing, transcription , virtual assistance , online promotion and data entry among others.
The programme puts into consideration the fact that the internet has dramatically revolutionized many different fields and technology has become an integral part of our lives. The initiative seeks to empower over one million young people to access digital job opportunities by equipping them with requisite skills necessary to make them efficiently in their fields of expertise.
The main objectives are basically to raise the profile of digital work; promote a mentorship and collaborative learning approach to finding digital work; provide Kenyans with access to digital work, and finally promote Kenya as a destination for online workers. This intriguing programme has attracted a positive reception from Kibabii University students with over 1,000 students undergoing training. According to the patron Dr. Roselida Maroko, the programme has grown in the University, with the aim of opening a hub where students shall be visiting to share knowledge and opportunities in the digital space.
